Contractor: Contractor Towkay Chua Hua Tong, an Ipoh Contractor (passed away in 1915). Tenders for the project was called from India and Malaya.

Construction Cost: $587,000 Straits Dollars

 

Architectural Style: Neo Classical

Brief Architectural Description: External faux stone work and a central octagonal cantilever staircase. The design of the central octagonal staircase was reported by The Straits Times to be the only example known in the East of Suez at the time.

 

Alteration History: All reinforced concrete cornices were renewed in 1940 at the cost of $22,000 Straits Dollars. The  North Wing was bombed during World War II. The Second floor of North Wing was damaged in a fire on 14 November 1968.

Federated Malay States Railways

Construction of New Central Offices in Kuala Lumpur for the Federated Malay States Railways

Tenders will be received at the office of the Under Secretary, Federated Malay States, Kuala Lumpur, up to noon on Monday the 4th May 1914, for the construction of new Central Offices in Kuala Lumpur for the Federated Malay States Railways. 

Plans, specifications and all particulars can be seen at the office of the Government Architect, Federated Malay States, Kuala Lumpur any day, Sundays excepted, from 10 am to 4 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to noon. 

Tenders must be endorsed as above and must be accompanied by a deposit of $100, which will be returned to all the tenderers after the signing of the contract. This deposit is liable to forfeiture should a tender be withdrawn. 

The successful tenderer will be required to furnish approved security to the amount of $10,000 before signing the contract. 
The Government estimate fo the work of which tenders are being called is $508,000 Straits Currency. 

The Government fo the Federated Malay States does not bind itself to accept the lowest of any tender.
